Ryan Gravenberch drops out of Netherlands U21 squad to focus on Liverpool

Ryan Gravenberch will not be available for the Netherlands U21 squad during the international break. According to Voetbal International, the 21-year-old midfielder wants to focus on Liverpool, having joined the Premier League club from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day. Michael Reiziger has called up SC Cambuur’s Fedde de Jong as his replacement.

It’s been a busy week for Ryan Gravenberch. The former Ajax player put pen to paper on a four-year deal with Liverpool on transfer deadline day, putting an end to his short spell with Bayern Munich. Gravenberch featured 24 times last season and started only three of those games with the German champions. A move away from Munich was required for the player’s development.

Gravenberch wants to use the international break to settle into life at Liverpool. The midfielder is still considered to be a youth player for the Netherlands, despite having made 11 appearances for the first team. The Netherlands U21 squad will take on Moldova and North Macedonia within the next two weeks.
