Romeo Lavia picks up injury in Chelsea training three weeks after completing £58m move from Southampton

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Romeo Lavia has picked up an injury in a training session today with Chelsea. The severity of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but it’s feared that it could be a muscle tear at the ankle. The Belgian midfielder is yet to play a minute for his new club, having recently joined from Southampton for around £58m.

Lavia joined Chelsea just three weeks ago, after experiencing a successful season on a personal level with Southampton. Last season the 19-year-old midfielder made 29 Premier League appearances as the Saints dropped down to the Championship. Now, with his new club, Lavia could be out for some time. It’s not good news for Chelsea or for the player.

Chelsea have kicked off the new campaign winning one game in their opening four league fixtures. A tough start to life in West London for new head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Romeo Lavia was one of 13 summer signings made by Chelsea. The Belgium international is yet to play a single minute for the Blues, and now supporters may have to wait even longer to see the midfielder in action.
