Red Devils told to remove the word ‘Love’ from away shirt, just two days before their opening match

CEO of the Belgian football association has revealed that FIFA told the side that the world ‘Love’ has to be removed from their away shirt, just days before the Red Devils open their World Cup campaign against Canada. Peter Bossaert, speaking in HLN, said “There was simply no consultation possible” when asked about the removal of the word from the away shirt.

The Red Devils were also planning on wearing the one love armband, which Eden Hazard had on during the recent friendly against Egypt, a game that Belgium lost 2-1. However, now that FIFA have claimed any player wearing the arm band will be booked, the Red Devils will revert to the new ‘no discrimination’ armband. Thomas Muenier has been critical of FIFA over this decision.

Belgium open their World Cup campaign against debutants Canada, before facing Morocco and Croatia. They will have to do without record goal scorer Romelu Lukaku for at least two of the three group games.
