Rangers loanee nets another goal for Utrecht in crucial win over Nijmegen

Sam Lammers netted his third goal of the season on Sunday as Utrecht claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen at Stadion Galgenwaard. The 26-year-old striker has bagged in back-to-back games for Utrecht, who are now eighth in the Eredivisie table with eight games remaining. Their European hopes have received a huge boost thanks Lammers’ six goal contributions this season.

Lammers joined Utrecht in January from Scottish Premiership side Rangers, where he scored just twice in 31 appearances. He’s previously bounced all across Europe, experiencing spells with the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt, Atalanta, Empoli and Sampdoria, but he’s struggled to find form since his 16 goal season at Heerenveen back in 2019.

At Utrecht, he’s having a positive impact on a side that could potentially be playing Europa Conference League football next season under Ron Jans. There’s a high chance that the Eredivisie side will pursue a permanent move in the summer.
