Genk have announced that 23-year-old attacking midfielder Nicolás Castro has made his loan move to Elche permanent. The Argentine joined the La Liga 2 side in the summer on loan until the end of the season and has gone on to make 26 appearances in the league, scoring five goals and providing two assists. Castro only joined Genk in the summer of 2022 from Newell’s in Argentina for around €3.2m.
Castro did have a contract with Genk that was set to run until 2027. In his one season in Belgium the attacking midfielder, who can also play out wide, made 26 appearances for Genk and provided one assist. Prior to moving from Argentina to Belgium Castro had played 51 games for Newell’s, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.
Elche are currently second in the Spanish second tier, three points behind leaders Leganes. They are currently just a point ahead of Espanyol in third and Eibar in fourth.
