Head coach Ron Jans and technical director Jan Streuer to leave FC Twente

Head coach Ron Jans and technical director Jan Streuer will leave FC Twente at the end of the season, the club have officially announced.

Both Streuer and Jans have been at the Eredivisie club since 2020 but it has been confirmed the duo have decided not to continue for a fourth season.

Streuer was offered to stay in his role for the 2023/24 season by the club’s board but opted to leave his post and offer any assistance needed to his successor as the club prepares to hire a replacement in the short-term.

He said: “In the summer of 2020 I was asked to help FC Twente. At the time I could never have imagined that it would be for a period of three years. We wanted to offer the club perspective again and I think we succeeded. I am having a great time at FC Twente and I enjoy working with the people within the club.

Nevertheless, I think it is good for the future of the club to work with a new technical manager now. I am happy to support him.”

On the club website, Jans said: “I am really enjoying myself at FC Twente. After more than 2.5 years, we are more sporty than I could have dreamed of when I was appointed. The direct placement for European football last season was perhaps a small miracle. Still, my feeling says that it will be good after three seasons.

“Of course I will continue to dedicate myself with all my heart and soul to FC Twente in the coming months. I am convinced that we will continue the season well with staff and players. There is still a lot to gain, we are going for that.”

Director of football Paul van der Kraan spoke highly of Streuer and Jans’ impact at the club sine they arrived almost three years ago but admits he is disappointed they will be leaving at the end of the season.

He said: “Jan Streuer and Ron Jans have meant a lot to FC Twente in recent years. Their arrival in the summer of 2020 is the best thing that could have happened to the club in that period. We thank Jan and Ron in advance for their great role in bringing the club back to where it is today.

“We regret the decision they have now made, but we should respect that. We will of course say goodbye to them in an appropriate manner at a later date.”

Jans took over from Gonzalo Garcia ahead of the 2020/21 at the De Grolsch Veste Enschede with the club finishing 14th in the league table and showed immediate improvement finishing 10th in his first season in charge.

Last season, he guided FC Twente to their best finish since lifting the league title in 2019 by finishing fourth and securing a place in the Europa Conference League third qualifying round – which they bowed out in the play-off round to Serie A club Fiorentina.
