Injury crisis worsens at Gent as Kamil Piatkowski suffers quadriceps tear

As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, Gent’s injury list has now got even longer as Kamil Piatkowski suffered a quadriceps tear during their 3-3 draw with Westerlo. The on loan Polish defender joins Tarik Tissoudali, Nurio Fortuna, Andrew Hjulsager, Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe, Darko Lemaijic and Mattis Samoise on the injury list.

Gent are heading into a first leg tie with Qarabag in the Europa Conference League this week with a bare bones squad. Head coach Hein Vanhaezaebrouck had to call up a number of second team players to fill out the bench at the weekend, with Rune Van Den Bergh and Ahmed Abdullahi joining the first team.

Despite their current injury crisis, Gent saw new man Gift Orban get off the mark with two well taken goals. Their third was scored by Hugo Cuypers, who is the top scoring Belgian in the league this season. Given his current scoring streak, there may well be calls for the striker to be included in the upcoming Belgian national team squad.
