Former Ajax youth prospect and FC Volendam striker lighting things up in the Dutch second tier for Helmond Sport

Helmond Sport have scored 41 goals in the Eerste Divisie this season. 19 of these have been scored by one player. Former Ajax youth academy prospect and FC Volendam striker Martjin Kaars has been on fire in the Dutch second tier this season. His 19 goals have come in 28 games, with three from the spot. Kaars is averaging 0.68 goals per 90, with 2.76 shots per game of which 1.36 are on target.

Kaars left Ajax in the summer of 2017 and joined Volendam. In 108 games for the side he scored 28 goals before leaving the side on a free transfer to join his current side Helmond Sport. This season has been by far the 24-year-old’s best to date. He scored 14 goals in 38 games for the side last year and has already done better this time around. Despite his goals, the side are outside of the promotion play-off spots.

With his contract up in 2025, Helmond may have a decision to make this summer. There will surely be some sides in the Eredivisie looking at Kaars as a potential signing next season.
