Feyenoord to be without lead assist maker for a few weeks

Feyenoord have announced that Calvin Stengs is set to miss a number of weeks after suffering a knee injury during the KNVB Cup semi-final win over FC Groningen. The 25-year-old Dutch midfielder is expected to be back after the upcoming international break, having missed the weekend’s 2-2 draw with Eredivisie leaders PSV.

After helping Antwerp to their first Belgian top flight title since 1957, Stengs joined Feyenoord in the summer. In 34 games for the side has has scored seven goals and provided 13 assists. Once regarded as a winger, during his time in Belgium Stengs showed his ability to play more centrally, either further forward in the number 10 role or dropping back into a more conventional central midfield position.

Stengs began his career in the Netherlands with AZ Alkmaar before moving to Nice. He struggled in Ligue 1 to make an impact over one and a half seasons. Yet over the past two years he has returned to the form that earned him the move to France in the first place.
