FC Twente investigating alleged racism towards Ajax striker Brian Brobbey

FC Twente are launching an investigation to find out if Ajax striker Brian Brobbey was racially abused on Sunday, after the final game of the season. A video of Ajax midfielder Steven Berghuis throwing a punch at a supporter circulated on social media after the match. The regional newspaper, Tubantia, then wrote that the motive behind the attack was a racist remark made towards Brobbey. Twente will now assess whether this was the case.

Ajax lost 3-1 to FC Twente away from home on Sunday afternoon. The result meant that Ajax finished the season in third place, missing out on Champions League football for next season. After the game, videos emerged quickly on social media of Steven Berghuis punching a supporter in front of the Ajax team bus.

Berghuis has reportedly received a fine from Ajax for his actions and the KNVB have been looking into the incident. More clarity over the situation is expected within the next week. FC Twente will investigate who the person in question is and what he may have shouted at Brian Brobbey.
