Cercle Brugge dismiss reports that AS Monaco are looking to sell the club

Cercle Brugge have moved quickly to dismiss reports circulating in HLN that their majority shareholder AS Monaco is looking to sell the club. The report claims that, despite dismissal from AS Monaco as well as Cercle Brugge, the club are looking to sell because of a low return on investment over the course of almost six years.

Clearly the paper is being told that neither club is telling the truth. However, this has been Cercle’s best year since the takeover. The side are currently competing in the play-offs for the first time in almost a decade. After their 5-3 win over Westerlo at the weekend, Cercle have given themselves an outside chance of European football. With back-to-back games against Gent, Cercle could, if they win both, find themselves top of the play-offs. Winning the play-offs means entry into the qualification rounds for the Europa Conference League. Cercle have not lost to Gent in the league this season.
