Ruud van Nistelrooy expresses desire to keep Fábio Silva at PSV

PSV head coach, Ruud van Nistelrooy hopes to have Fábio Silva at his disposal next season. The Portuguese striker joined the club on loan from Wolves in January, having spent the first half of the season on loan at Anderlecht. Silva has scored four goals in 12 appearances for PSV and he scored the winning penalty in the KNVB Cup final against Ajax. Regular impressive performances have made Van Nistelrooy keen to keep the 20-year-old at the Philips Stadion.

On Saturday, Silva played an important part in PSV’s 1-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam. With just over 73 minutes on the clock, the striker intelligently dispossessed Sparta defender Adil Auassar, before playing the ball into the feet of Anwar El Ghazi who found the back of the net.

Speaking in his press conference after the game, Ruud van Nistelrooy expressed his delight with Fábio Silva’s performance. The 46-year-old said ‘Silva fills in great when he gets his minutes, so compliments to him. We always want to keep our best players, but you know where he is under contract and what his price tag could be. At least we are going to enjoy having him for three more games.’

PSV sit second in the Eredivisie after 31 games. If the club can maintain their current position, this season will undoubtedly be seen as a success, especially as they’ve won this year’s KNVB Cup. Van Nistelrooy’s target for next season will most likely be to win the league. If the club can re-sign Fábio Silva, whether it be another loan move or a permanent deal, he would help the club achieve that goal. Wolves won’t let Silva leave on the cheap seeing as they signed him for over £30m from FC Porto in 2020, and he’s been impressing all season abroad.
