Frenkie de Jong has rejected an offer from Manchester United, with it not meeting his financial demands. The English club will now have to prepare a new one.
Man Utd, now managed by Erik ten Hag, De Jong’s former coach, have been trying to sign the midfielder all summer with Barcelona keen to cash in on him if he doesn’t take a pay cut. However, it has repeatedly been reported that he has no intention of heading to Old Trafford.
There has been talk in recent weeks that he is becoming more open to making such a move, but it now seems that he has rejected an offer.
“I have heard – from very strong sources – that Manchester United’s offer for Frenkie de Jong has expired,” said Marcel van der Kraan on De Telegraaf podcast.
“New negotiations will have to begin. They will have to make a new construction to fulfill the economic wishes of the player.”
With Chelsea also interested in De Jong, just where he will be playing by the end of the transfer window is very much unclear.
