Fenerbahce’s Mbwana Samatta to return to Genk

Fenerbahce’s Mbwana Samatta is returning to Genk, with the Belgian club signing him on loan for the season.

Genk are in need of a new striker with Cyriel Dessers leaving for Cremonese, and it was reported last week that they were interested in bringing Samatta back.

He joined the club in 2016 and enjoyed a hugely successful four years there, scoring 75 goals in 191 matches, and claiming the Golden Shoe in 2018/19.

It now seems all but certain that he will indeed return, with Sacha Tavolieri reporting that a deal has been reached with the Turkish club.

Such a deal will see him join Genk on loan initially, who can make the move permanent at a later date for a fee or around €3 million or €4 million depending on bonuses.

He is apparently already in Belgium and will sign his contract with the club in the next few days.
