Atletico Madrid remain hopeful to sign Barcelona’s Memphis Depay

Atletico Madrid look set to win the race to sign Memphis Depay from Barcelona in the January transfer window after sending Joao Felix to Premier League’s Chelsea, Voetbal International reports.

Diego Simeone’s side are keen to bring the Netherlands international to the Civitas Metropolitano on a loan deal after sending their Portuguese international to Stamford Bridge.

The loan deal means Atletico are in need of depth in their attack and Depay is thought to be high on their list for the rest of the season but there might be a few hurdles ahead if they are to sign the 28-year-old this month.

It is thought that Barcelona are reluctant to let the Dutch winger go to a league rival despite the former Manchester United widely expected to leave Nou Camp and Depay understood to have agreed personal terms with the Madrid-based club.

Former Lille forward Depay is yet to feature for Barcelona since returning from World Cup duty despite being named on the bench against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid.
