Arsenal defender swaps London for Kortrijk

Ryan Alebiosu has joined Kortrijk from Arsenal and signed a three-year contract. The 21-year-old was announced by the Belgian club on deadline day, leaving the London club where he had been part of the set up since he was eight-years-old. The right-back never made an appearance for the first team. Instead, over the last two seasons the defender has had spells on loan with Kilmarnock and Crewe Alexandria. During his time in Scotland he made 29 appearances.

Winless Kortrijk have been searching for more defensive reinforcements, especially in the full-back positions. Nayel Mehssatou has been the sides regular right-back so far this season, although during the 2022/2023 season he showed that he could also play as a central midfielder. The side also added two more central defenders in Craig Cathcart and Mark Mampasi.

The side are currently bottom of the table, with just one point from their opening six games. This came in a 1-1 draw at home with Standard Liege, another side that are yet to win this season. After the international break Kortrijk will face Anderlecht at home.
