Kortrijk loan Mark Mampasi from Lokomotiv Moscow

Kortrijk have announced the signing of 20-year-old defender Mark Mampasi on loan from Lokomotiv Moscow. The Ukrainian/Russian dual national has joined with a purchase option. He becomes the second defender to join in the last 24 hours after Craig Cathcart signed on a free transfer yesterday. The 34-year-old was a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Watford, where he had spent almost a decade.

Mampasi began his carer with Shakhtar Donetsk, but did not make an appearance for the first team. During 2021 he was loaned to Mariupol, where he made 22 appearances. Lokomotiv Moscow signed the young defender in January 2022 and he has made 21 appearances for the side. Last season he spent a few months on loan at Turkish side Antalyaspor. Mampasi has been capped at youth level by Ukraine, but his move to Russia ended his chance at international football. The central-defender is also eligible for Nigeria.

Kortrijk are currently bottom of the league with just one point from their opening six games. That point came against Standard Liege, another side yet to win this season.
