Ajax interested in signing former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson

Ajax are in the running to sign former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Eredivisie club is thought to be interested in signing the England international following reports the former Sunderland player is looking to leave Saudi Arabia despite only moving there in the summer transfer window.

According to Italian journalist Romano, John van’t Schip’s side are keen to bring the midfielder to the Johan Cruyff Arena states the Al-Ettifaq midfielder but there are several other clubs keen on acquiring the 33-year-old’s services.

In a post on X, he states: ” Ajax are showing concrete interest in signing Jordan Henderson in case he’ll get green light to leave Al Ettifaq in January transfer window. There are several clubs keen, waiting for Saudi club decision — but Henderson is looking for options and Ajax are there.”

Henderson originally moved to Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League on a rumoured £700,000-per-week deal and reunited with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard. The club are currently on a nine-match winless run and do not resume their season until mid-February.

With the acquisitions of Dominic Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, Henderson decided to seek a new challenge and joined Al-Ettifaq on a three-year deal after spending 12 years at Anfield.

During his time at Anfield, Henderson ended Liverpool’s domestic league trophy drought and lifted the Premier League title in the 2019/20 season, a year after lifting the Champions League trophy for the club’s historic sixth time in conquering Europe.
