Zulte Waregem’s Pape Demba Diop scores first Senegal U20 goal as side qualify for AFCON U20 knock-out stages

While his side are struggling near the bottom of the Belgian Pro League, Pape Demba Diop is enjoying his time with Senegal’s U20 side in Egypt. The Young Lions of Terrange secured their place in the knock-out rounds after a 3-0 win over Mozambique, with Diop getting himself on the score sheet. The young Zulte Waregem midfielder grabbed his first goal for the side after just over 50 minutes had gone to make it 2-0.

Senegal started their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Nigeria, a game which saw another Pro League player feature. The Super Eagles forward, Ahmed Abdullahi of Gent, had a game to forget as he was sent off in the 96th minute. Senegal will face Egypt on Saturday, with the hosts in need of a win having drawn with Mozambique and lost to Nigeria.

For Diop’s domestic side, they have a huge game on Friday against Kortrijk. The derby has extra spice this season with both sides battling to avoid the drop. Zulte Waregem will be without a number of key players for the fixture.
