Zinho Gano and Ruud Vormer deliver to give Zulte Waregem hope

Zulte Waregem travelled to Eupen this weekend knowing that had to win or they would join RFC Seraing in the Challenger Pro League next season. Clearly, this motivated former Club Brugge midfielder Ruud Vormer, who put on a clinic to lead his side to victory. The 34-year-old ended the game with a goal and three assists as the side ran out 5-1 winners. For Eupen, they just needed a point to guarantee their survival in the Pro League this season. Now, the Pandas will travel to Club Brugge needing to better Zulte Waregem’s result against Cercle Brugge. Both Brugge sides are fighting for a place in the play-offs and will be motivated to win their games.

Two of Vormer’s assists were for Guinea-Bissau international Zinho Gano. The 29-year-old striker, who has been guilty of missing some big chances in recent weeks, rediscovered his finishing touch as he scored a hat-trick. On loan Strasbourg defender Karol Fila opened the scoring, with Alioune Ndour and Alieu Fadera were the providers for the other goals.

It was a mental show of strength from the away side, who had lost in the last minute against Charleroi the week before. Had they managed to hold onto a point against the Zebras, they would be level with Eupen on points. Zulte Waregem will have to beat Cercle Brugge, as even finishing level on points with Eupen would see the Pandas remain in the league on games won.
