Yira Sor reveals fellow Nigerian Paul Onuachu helped convince him to move to Genk

Speaking following his first start and goal for his new side Genk, Yira Sor revealed that he spoke to Paul Onuachu prior to the move. As reported by Voetbalkrant, Sor was speaking of how he knew Genk were the team to move to despite his struggles this season at his former club Slavia Prague. The Nigerian attacker said “Genk kept believing in me. They saw something in me. Even when I wasn’t great, they kept me busy. I appreciated that. After a good campaign in the Conference League I had several options, but I saw Genk as the ideal place to develop myself”.

Sor then spoke of how he called his fellow Nigerian Paul Onuachu to get his advice on the move. The player revealed that Onuachu confirmed to Sor that Genk believed in the player.

Sor started for the first time against Zulte Waregem at the weekend, scoring his first goal after a great individual run. It proved to be the winning goal for the league leaders, who extended their lead at the top of the league over the likes of Club Brugge and Antwerp.

Genk have only lost twice in the league this season, with defeats coming on the first day against Club Brugge and just after the World Cup against relegation threatened Kortrijk.
