Wout Weghorst praised by Ruud van Nistelrooy ahead of Premier League transfer

Manchester United’s new signing Wout Weghorst has been praised by former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, Voetbal International reports.

The PSV Eindhoven head coach spoke highly of Weghorst, who finished his loan spell early at Besiktas, ahead of his loan move to Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy, who scored 150 goals in 219 appearances for the Red Devils over five years, worked with Weghorst, 30, while a coach at the Netherlands national team.

“I think Wout has so much character and qualities that he will stand there,” he said. “I experienced him at Orange. He’s just a whopper of a guy, with an incredibly competitive character. We also saw that at the World Cup.”

“Wout is ready for such a step. And he will make his contribution there, I am 100 percent convinced of that. He has the qualities to make an impact at United.”

Weghorst picked up nine goals in 18 appearances in Turkey this season before deciding to join Erik ten Hag’s set up in the Premier League.
