Work permit issues prevent Roma’s Justin Kluivert from joining Fulham

Justin Kluivert’s move from Roma to Fulham has fallen through with the Dutchman not being eligible for a British work permit.

Just yesterday, the Dutch winger looked set to join the London club with Roma agreeing to let him go on a loan-to-buy deal which would see Fulham pay €9.5m at the end of the season.

The two clubs had signed off on the deal and Kluivert was all set to undergo his medical examination at Craven Cottage, but things then fell apart.

As first reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic and then by multiple other sources, Kluivert doesn’t meet the criteria required to gain a work permit to play in England due to his lack of appearances for Roma in recent times.

Spending time on loan at RB Leipzig and Nice, the Dutchman has played for the Italian club just once since the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

Fulham are unable to appeal the decision, so the deal is off. Where he will go now is unclear, with Ajax only seeing him as a Plan B should they fail to sign Lucas Ocampos.
