Wolves loan out Dutch defender Nigel Lonwijk for the third season in a row

Wolverhampton Wanderers have loaned out their Dutch defender Nigel Lonwijk. The 20-year-old has joined Swiss side Grasshoppers Zurich for one season. The move will see Lonwijk spend a third season in a row out on loan.

Last season Lonwijk was on loan in League One with Plymouth Argyle. The former PSV academy product featured 35 times in the third tier as Plymouth won the title to gain automatic promotion to the Championship. Lonwijk spent the 21/22 campaign on loan in the Eredivisie with Fortuna Sittard. He featured 23 times in all competitions.

Nigel Lonwijk joined Wolves from PSV in 2020. The centre-back is yet to feature in a first-team game for the Premier League side. The player has played 18 times for the U21 team. Lonwijk joins Grasshoppers on loan along with his Wolves teammate Theo Corbeanu. Speaking about the signing of Lonwijk the Grasshoppers sporting director Bernt Haas has said ‘With Nigel we have gained a strong defender. He has a lot of potential and brings a strong presence. Together we are preparing for the exciting challenges ahead.’
