William Pacho and Angelo Preciado called up to Ecuador squad for the World Cup

Antwerp’s 21 year-old defender William Pacho has been called up to the final 26 man squad for Ecuador, alongside Genk’s 24 year-old full-back Angelo Preciado. With the injury to Bjorn Engels, Pacho has been ever present for Antwerp alongside Toby Aldeweireld. Pacho joined the Great Old in January of 2022 from Independiente, making 25 appearances so far. Pacho is yet to earn a cap for the Ecuador national team, but has impressed with the second best defence in Belgium.

Preciado also left Independiente to move to Belgium, joining Genk the year prior to Pacho’s transfer. Preciado has made 51 appearances for Genk, with 7 assists to his name. The young defender has had to play second fiddle to Colombian right-back Daniel Munoz, while also having played some of the season at right-wing.

Ecuador will face Qatar in the opening game of the World Cup, before games against the Netherlands and Senegal in Group A.
