Sarina Wiegman didnโt want to hear about any major difference in class with the Netherlands after Englandโs historic 4-0 victory over Oranje. The England manager called it โa snapshotโ at the post-match press conference.
โI donโt think the difference is that big. This is just a snapshot,โ says Wiegman. โIt worked out really well for us. I think we played very well, and the Netherlands, for their standards, didnโt. But I think the Netherlands has a world-class team.โ
Wiegman, however, wasnโt surprised by the Orange womenโs performance. โIt didnโt surprise me. We started really well,โ said the former Dutch national coach. โWe were able to put pressure on their defense quite quickly, and they really struggled with that.โ
The heavy defeat against England leaves the Dutch women stuck on three points, while their opponent is now also on the same. Wiegman and co. lost their first group match to France.
England face Wales on Sunday. The Netherlandsโ third group match against France awaits on Sunday evening. The French are on six points after a 4-1 victory over Wales.
