Westerlo have announced the signing of 18-year-old striker Lucas Stassin from Anderlecht. The striker, who was one of the top scorers in the Belgian second tier with 15 goals last season, has signed a four-year-deal with the club. Westerlo have been trying to secure the signing of Stassin all summer, and have finally landed one of their main targets. Having impressed in the second team, Stassin was given a few games in the first team during the 2022/2023 season, playing five times and not scoring. With his contract expiring next summer, Anderlecht have decided to sell rather than risk losing him for free.
With the addition of Croatian youngster Matija Frigan, Westerlo have an exciting young attack going into the 2023/2024 season. Much is expected of Frigan, with plenty of other clubs from elsewhere in Europe having been monitoring the 20-year-old who scored 15 times last season.
Westerlo will open their 2023/2024 campaign against Eupen on the 29th of July. Their opponents are one of the sides tipped heavily to be in a relegation battle this season, having only just avoided the drop on the final day of the 2022/2023 season.
