West Ham set their sights on Ajax captain Steven Bergwijn amid interest from other Premier League and Saudi clubs

According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham are considering a move for Ajax’s Steven Bergwijn as they look to bolster their attack this month. The Hammers are likely to wait on outgoings before making a move for the Dutch winger.

Other Premier League clubs and multiple Saudi sides are reportedly interested in Bergwijn, who has netted seven times in 13 Eredivisie appearances this season. The 26-year-old joined Ajax from Tottenham in a deal worth over €31m in 2022. During his time in North London, Bergwijn featured 83 times, racking up 18 goal contributions.

If Ajax receive an attractive offer this January, Bergwijn will be allowed to leave the Amsterdam club. At West Ham, the 32-time Netherlands international would link up with former teammates Edson Álvarez and Mohammed Kudus. Both players moved to the London Stadium last summer.

Steven Bergwijn has worn the captains armband for the majority of the season. His leadership qualities and excellent footballing abilities have helped guide this young Ajax side from rock bottom in the Eredivisie to fifth place this season. The forward played a crucial part in restoring equilibrium at the club after an incredibly rocky start to the campaign.
