West Ham remain interested in Edson Álvarez after Borussia Dortmund pull out of race to sign the Ajax midfielder

West Ham United remain seriously interested in Edson Álvarez, Voetbal International reports. On Thursday Borussia Dortmund pulled out of the race to sign Álvarez despite agreeing personal terms with the Mexican midfielder. West Ham are set to sell Declan Rice to Arsenal for over £100m, meaning enough money would be raised to sign the Ajax ace. The Dutch giants value Álvarez at around €40m.

Edson Álvarez has been a West Ham target for some time now. The 25-year-old was exceptional last season despite Ajax’s third-place finish in the Eredivisie. He featured 31 times in the league, scoring three times and providing three assists.

Álvarez accumulated the second-highest number of successful passes in the league last season (2129) and won exactly 200 midfield duels. He’s been a brick wall in the Ajax midfield and defence since he signed from Club América in 2019. The 63-time Mexican international could be a brilliant replacement for Declan Rice.
