West Ham reach agreement on personal terms with Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez has set his sights on a move to West Ham United. The Premier League side have reached an agreement on personal terms with the Mexican midfielder and now the deal depends on both clubs.

Álvarez has been in the interest of West Ham for months. David Moyes is still searching for a Declan Rice replacement after the Hammers sold the midfielder to Arsenal for a club-record fee of £105m. Edson Álvarez is a top target, but now the club will need to agree a fee with Ajax for the 25-year-old.

Edson Álvarez can play as a defensive midfielder or as a centre-back. Last season the 69-time Mexico international featured 44 times in all competitions for Ajax, who finished the Eredivisie campaign in third place. Álvarez joined the Dutch giants from Club América in the summer of 2019. He’s been one of their standout players ever since he joined. This could be an excellent addition for West Ham, but Ajax will be reluctant to sell the player as they’ve already lost nine players so far in this transfer window.
