According to Mohammed Kudus’ agent, the midfielder was close to joining Chelsea from Ajax during the summer. The 23-year-old Ghana international had reached an agreement with the London club and had a conversation with manager Mauricio Pochettino. However, Chelsea did not meet Ajax’s asking price, which resulted in the attacking midfielder’s £38m move to West Ham.
Speaking on the RMC Sport transfer show, Mohammed Kudus’ agent Jennifer Mendelewitsch revealed ‘We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed the contract but the deal was not done. He (Kudus) talked with the coach but in the end it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax. The truth is that they were completely focused on the transfer of (Moises) Caicedo, they put all their energy into that.’
Mendelewitsch then revealed that Chelsea’s offer to Ajax was worth around fifteen to twenty million euros. ‘There was no counter-offer from Ajax. Chelsea did this with several players this summer.’ Mohammed Kudus stayed at Ajax for the first three games of the season, which gave Maurice Steijn’s side a huge helping hand. The former Nordsjaelland talent scored four goals in those games. Since then, Kudus has featured in eight matches for West Ham, where he’s already scored three goals.
