West Ham join Liverpool and Napoli in the race to sign Torino’s Dutch defender Perr Schuurs

West Ham United are the latest club to show interest in Torino defender Perr Schuurs, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The 23-year-old centre-back has attracted interest from several top European sides, and now David Moyes has added the former Ajax player to his list of summer transfer targets. Torino have reportedly placed a €40m price tag on Schuurs.

On Tuesday, Tuttosport reported that Torino had turned down offers from Napoli and Liverpool for the Dutch defender. The Serie A side are reluctant to sell their star man, seeing as he had such a successful first season in Italy. Last season he featured 30 times in Serie A as Torino finished in 10th position. Perr Schuurs is a right-footed centre-back who stands at 6ft 3in tall. The former Netherlands U21 international is excellent in the air and averages 1.7 tackles per game in Italy.

Schuurs kicked off his career in the Netherlands with Fortuna Sittard. He played 60 times for Fortuna, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists within those games. A move to Ajax followed in 2018, and the defender went on to win three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Cups and one Dutch Super Cup, all before the age of 23.

The Dutchman could be an excellent signing for West Ham, who will be playing Europa League football next season after winning last season’s Conference League. The price tag shouldn’t be a problem for the Hammers as they’re close to completing the £105m sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal.

The biggest difficulty in this deal will be the competition they face. Napoli won last season’s Serie A and will be playing Champions League football next season. They’re set to lose their star centre-back, Kim Min-Jae to Bayern Munich, so a starting spot could be available for Schuurs. Liverpool and Crystal Palace are also said to be interested in Perr Schuurs.
