Wesley Sneijder ‘excited’ by Fortuna Sittard’s project

Wesley Sneijder looks set to join Fortuna Sittard to play a leading role in their multi-club project, with owner Atilla Aytekin saying the Dutchman is “excited” by their plans.

Since the new owners took over the club, Sneijder has been rumoured to become the second big name in football to join following the signing of Burak Yilmaz.

The owners want to set up a consortium of clubs around the world that will work together and want Sneijder to be one of the leaders of such a project.

It looks like they’ll get their wish, with Aytekin saying talks are progressing and that the Netherlands legend is enthusiastic about coming aboard.

“Wesley is even more excited about our plans,” he told Voetbal International.

“It is a very nice project that we are working on very seriously, not a whim, people see that. Wesley too. In turn, we are very enthusiastic about him.

“You always have a certain image from the media, but if you calm down, you see insights and capabilities emerge much more realistically and rationally.”
