Wesley Hoedt not willing to accept bench role as player looks set to depart Anderlecht in January

HLN is reporting that Anderlecht’s 28 year-old centre back Wesley Hoedt is currently training separately from the first team squad. Hoedt has also not been included in the selection for the upcoming match with second place Antwerp.

Hoedt has had a poor season, with high profile mistakes, most notably when he gave away a penalty against KV Mechelen. Under former manager Felice Mazzu, Hoedt was dropped for poor performances. With Mazzu gone, it appears that interim manager Robin Veldman is also not convinced by the former Southampton defender. In the must win game against Sikeborg during the week he dropped Hoedt in favour of Hannes Delcroix.

Hoedt is under contract at Anderlecht until 2025, however the report indicates that the club is willing to allow him to depart in January. The arrival of Jan Vertonghen in the summer, alongside the accelerated development of Zeno Debast means the club are confident in their defensive options.
