Warleson heroics not enough for Cercle Brugge in city derby

Cercle Brugge goalkeeper Warleson put in another inspired display as he denied Club Brugge for the majority of the Brugge derby on Sunday afternoon. The Brazilian goalkeeper made five crucial saves as he kept the away side out until Andreas Skov Olsen equalised in the 83rd minute.

Cercle had taken the lead in the 32nd minute thanks to Kevin Denkey’s 24th league goal of the season. The Togolese is quickly closing in on 50 goals for the club, with 48 in 115 games since joining at the beginning of 2021. The results means Club Brugge remain two points ahead of Cercle in third. Next up for the green and black half of Brugge is a trip to Brussels to face Union St Gilloise.

Club Brugge will welcome the other Brussels side to Brugge in their next fixture. Both Brugge sides could have a major say in the title race between the two teams from the Belgian capital.
