Vitesse sign versatile and experienced German as Arnhem transfers continue

Vitesse have signed 30-year-old Marco Schikora, completing a ‘transfer hat-trick’ ahead of their belated league opener on Saturday.

Following Nathan Markelo and Maximilian Brüll, Schikora heads to Arnhem to provide the side’s depleted squad a much more solid start ahead of their season kickoff in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie this Friday against Jong AZ.

“I’m happy to sign here. We were already in contact in the summer, but unfortunately, due to all the licensing issues, it didn’t go ahead,” began Schikora, who was awaiting his contract signing. “That’s why I’m even happier now that it’s finally happened. Vitesse is a great and big club, and I can’t wait to get my first minutes in the yellow and black.”

Vitesse are bringing in plenty of experience with Schikora, who can play in both midfield and defence. Schikora played 170 matches in Germany’s third tier and around 150 matches in lower leagues. He was most recently with SV Sandhausen until his contract expired this summer.
