Vitesse earned their first point since returning to professional football on Tuesday evening, as they managed to fight back to draw 1-1 at RKC Waalwijk.
The Arnhem side bounced back from their belated season starter against Jong AZ. There, they lost 4-0, and this one showed signs of heading to another defeat.
In fact, after Jordi Altena made it 1-0 with a fine shot into the top corner in the 11th minute, the visitors were lucky not to be further behind as Jesper Uneken hit the crossbar both before and after halftime.
Ultimately, in a determined performance that Rüdiger Rehm’s side will want to replicate, Vitesse limited the damage in the second period and equalised a minute before the end when Marco Schikora headed home a corner from Nino Zonneveld.
While Vitesse still look up from the foot of the table amidst their pre-existing points deduction, RKC remain mid-table with seven points after relegation from the Eredivisie.
