Vincent Janssen knows Louis van Gaal is watching as striker hopes for World Cup squad spot

In an interview with Gazet van Antwerpen, Antwerp’s Dutch striker Vincent Janssen spoke about his desire to be part of the Netherlands World Cup squad. Janssen said “Of course that possible World Cup selection plays in my head. A year ago I no longer took that into account.”

The striker went on to say “Every contender tries to convince the national coach of a country one last time. Of course I am not in daily contact with Louis van Gaal. I know he is watching me”.

Since moving to Belgium, Janssen has rediscovered his scoring touch. The former Spurs and AZ Alkmaar striker has scored 8 goals in 15 matches so far, as well as providing 3 assists. He recently said that he believes the Belgian and Mexican leagues are stronger than the Eredivisie.

Janssen has played 20 times for the national team, scoring 7 goals. The last of these goals came back in 2017 during a World Cup qualifier at home to Luxembourg.
