AZ Alkmaar striker Vangelis Pavlidis has been crowned Eredivisie Player of the Month for October. The Greek striker scored five league goals last month to take his tally for the season up to 14 goals in just nine matches. Pavlidis averages 1.48 goals per 90, which just tells you that he is tearing it up in the Eredivisie at the moment. He’s the league’s top scorer and his contributions have helped AZ climb to second place in the table. This is his second Player of the Month award this season.
According to Opta, Vangelis Pavlidis is the first player to score a goal in 10 Eredivisie matches in a row since Wilfried Bony in 2013. The 24-year-old is unstoppable at the moment and defenders can’t contain him. This weekend, AZ take on Excelsior away from home. If Pavlidis finds the back of the net, he’ll take that incredible tally to 11 league games in a row that he’s scored in.
Pavlidis kicked off his professional career in Germany with VfL Bochum. The Greece international made just four appearances for the club before joining Borussia Dortmund II on loan. His first move to the Netherlands followed, and he spent three seasons with Willem II. After scoring 33 goals in 82 matches, Vangelis Pavlidis joined AZ for just €2.5m in 2021. Now, he’s in his prime and it’ll come as no surprise if some of Europe’s top club’s come calling for the forward in January.
