Vangelis Pavlidis closing in on goal scoring milestone with AZ Alkmaar

After another goal at the weekend in the sides 4-0 win over Excelsior, Vangelis Pavlidis is getting closer to securing another milestone with AZ Alkmaar. The Greek forward has just seven more goals to get until he jumps into third place on the sides all time top scorers list. In doing so, he would overtake Kees ‘Pier’ Tol, who managed 79 goals in 195 games.

Pavlidis is getting there in record tie, with his 73 goals for the club coming in just 128 games with an average of 0.57 goals per match. Of those in the top 10, only Kurt Welzl (0.58) and the legendary Kees Kist (0.62) are ahead of him. Kist will never be surpassed, with an incredible 252 goals in 405 games for the side.

The remaining Eredivisie schedule is certainly looking kind to the 25-year-old, who already has 22 goals in 25 games this season. Of the sides next five fixtures, four of them are against relegation threatened sides. They face an FC Volendam side next weekend who have conceded a mammoth 63 goals in 25 games so far this season. This certainly feels like a chance for Pavlidis to get close to, or even surpass, Tol before the end of this season.
