Jean-Paul Boëtius is going on trial with SC Heerenveen. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder, who is also adept on the wings, will get the chance to prove himself in Friesland in the coming two weeks.
Former Feyenoord and Oranje team-mate, Robin van Persie has provided Boetius the opportunity to earn himself a contract. The current Heerenveen manager played with the midfielder at Feyenoord in the 2017-18 season, winning the KNVB Cup, and also played one international match with him for the Dutch national team.
Boëtius was diagnosed with testicular cancer over two years ago. However, to great relief in the footballing world, he was treated successfully and quickly returned to the field. Unfortunately, later it turned out that he also had metastases in his lymph nodes. Boëtius came out last summer with the good news that he is ‘clean’.
The free agent has previously played for FC Basel, Genk, FSV Mainz 05 and Hertha BSC in the past. He has recently kept his fitness up at Jong Feyenoord.
