Utrecht close to completing the signing of Sam Lammers on loan from Rangers

According to De Telegraaf, FC Utrecht are closing in on the signing Sam Lammers on loan from Rangers. The former PSV and Atalanta striker has struggled to settle in Scotland, having joined Rangers last summer. After signing Fábio Silva on loan from Wolves, Lammers has fallen even further down the pecking order at Ibrox.

In 17 Scottish Premiership appearances this season, Sam Lammers has scored just two goals. Having struggled to succeed with PSV, Atalanta, Eintracht Frankfurt and now Rangers, a move to a lower level club might be required for the 26-year-old. In fact, Lammers’ best season so far was the 18/19 campaign, which he spent on loan with Eredivisie side Heerenveen and scored 16 goals in 31 appearances.

Utrecht are in desperate need of a new striker, as they’ve struggled to score goals ever since the departure of Tasos Douvikas last summer. They’re currently 13th in the Eredivisie table just three points off the drop zone. Lammers is set to join on loan for the remainder of the season.
