USMNT defender Sam Vines back in training for Antwerp

As reported by GVA, USMNT defender Sam Vines has returned to training for Antwerp. Vines injury meant he missed out on a place in the World Cup squad for the USA, something his performances for the Great Old would have deserved. It is unlikely that he will feature right away as he ramps up the training, but it is certainly a boost for Antwerp’s title challenge. Vines had been ever present for Antwerp, playing in all 15 leagues matches prior to the injury. He also scored once and provided one assist.

While Vines is returning, there has been talk of a potential departure from Antwerp in the near future. Manchester United and Newcastle are both monitoring Antwerp’s hot prospect Arthur Vermeeren. The 18-year-old recently signed a new contract with the Great Old that ties him up until 2026, yet given his performances this season it is unlikely he will still be on the Antwerp books by then.

Antwerp’s recent win over Genk means they are certainly back in the title race. This weekend they will face relegation threatened Eupen, who themselves got a crucial win last weekend when they came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 in the last five minutes.
