Unstoppable: Gift Orban surpasses 2022 goals tally in less games

Gift Orban’s hat-trick against Cercle Brugge at the weekend saw him score his 19th goal for Gent. The Nigerian striking sensation has now scored 19 goals in 19 games for Gent, an incredible feat. He has now surpassed the total goals he scored for Norwegian side Stabaek in last years second tier. In Norway, Orban scored 18 goals in 23 games. Surely a Super Eagles call up is not far away.

Despite only joining the side in January, Orban has raced into second place on Gent’s top scoring charts in the league with 14 goals, just eight behind Hugo Cuypers who has 22. He’s also leapt into seventh place on the league wide top scoring charts, ahead of the likes of Ferran Jutgla and Hans Vanaken.

Orban’s goals have also meant that Gent are almost certainly going to have a chance of making the Europa Conference League next season. With their win over Cercle Brugge, Gent sit top of play-off two with a seven point lead of Standard Liege. If they can beat Cercle again, they will have won play-off two and enter the qualification rounds for the Conference League.
