Union St Gilloise will need to look elsewhere for goals following spate of injuries

There was some devastating news this week for Union St Gilloiseโ€™s star striker Promise David. The Canadian forward looks set for months on the sidelines, missing the sides run in for another Pro League title and, arguably more importantly, missing out on representing Canada at the 2026 World Cup. David was one of the few fit strikers Union had, and with the Belgian top flight entering the business end of the season, the side are going to have to look elsewhere for goals.

David is the sides top scorer with 15 goals this season, but he now joins the sides second and third highest scorers on the sidelines. Union St Gilloise have been without Ecuadorian striker Kevin Rodriguez, who is also suffering from an injury to his back. Like David, Rodriguez will be hoping to make it to the 2026 World Cup to represent Ecuador. Raul Florucz, the sides summer signing from Olimpija Ljubljana, is also out with a calf injury. The Austrian has scored eight goals and provided four assists in 29 games for Union St Gilloise this season.

That leaves David Hubert with a few options in the next few weeks. Ghanaian striker Mohamed Fuseini should certainly get an extended run up front. The forward scored 11 goals in 44 games last season, his first with Union St Gilloise. The 23-year-old has suffered with injuries himself, with just 13 appearances this season. Fuseini has one goal, but Union St Gilloise fans will hope he can step up with the injuries to the other forwards.

Another option is January signing Mateo Biondic. Like a few players before him, Biondic swapped the German lower leagues for Union St Gilloise in January. So far he has played six games, clocking just 31 minutes. He has grabbed one assist and with injuries to other players, he could suddenly find himself getting a lot more playing time. It would be very on brand for Union St Gilloise if the German striker suddenly found himself having a huge impact on them winning another Pro League title.

With four games to go until the play-offs begin, Union St Gilloise will be hoping to get at least one of Rodriguez or Florucz back on the pitch in time for the title fight with Club Brugge and potentially Sint Truiden to really begin.
