Union St Gilloise v Fenerbahçe Preview | Can Union keep up hopes of an unlikely treble?

Union St Gilloise have the chance to win an unlikely treble this season. The side are leading the Pro League ahead of city rivals Anderlecht and recently made the Belgian cup final for the first time since 1914. This evening they welcome Turkish giants Fenerbahçe to Brussels in the first leg of their Europa Conference League Round of 16 tie.

Union are in fine form ahead of the first leg. They have only lost once in 2024, which was a 2-1 defeat in the first leg of their cup semi-final against Club Brugge. In the league, they have not lost a game since September the 16th. They reached this round after overcoming Eintracht Frankfurt over two legs. After coming back from 2-0 down in the home leg to draw 2-2, they travelled to Germany and beat the Bundesliga side 2-1. They come into tonight’s clash following a 2-0 win over OH Leuven thanks to goals from Ross Sykes and Casper Terho.

Fenerbahçe have also only lost once in 2024. This came at the end of February away to Ankaragucu. At the weekend they beat Hatayspor 2-0 with goals from Bright Osayi-Samuel and Cengiz Ünder. The side are currently second in the Türkiye top flight, two points behind Galatasaray. The side are looking to secure their 20th top flight title, with the last one coming a decade ago. Experienced Bosnian international Edin Dzeko leads the side in the league with 18 goals in 27 games.
