Union St Gilloise have announced the signing of former Gent striker Elton Kabangu. The forward has signed a contract until 2026 and joins the club from Willem II, having joined the side from Gent after loan spells with FC Eindhoven. During two seasons with Eindhoven, Kabangu scored 18 goals in 77 games. In 58 games for Willem II, he has scored 16 goals. During the 2022/2023 season in the Dutch second division he scored 13 goals and provided six assists in 30 matches.
25-year-old Kabangu is Union’s first signing of the summer and has joined on a free after his contract in the Netherlands expired.
Kabangu may well be a replacement for Victor Boniface. The Nigeria has been linked with a number of top European clubs after his strong first season in Belgium. Union are hoping to receive a record fee for the forward. Boniface would be the third striker to leave in the last year, with Denis Undav and Dante Vanzeir having left in the previous windows.
