Two time AFCON winner Herve Renard denies applying for vacant Red Devils job

Current Saudi-Arabia head coach and two time AFCON winner Herve Renard has denied, via his social media, that he has applied for the vacant Red Devils job. Renard, whose Saudi-Arabia side shocked eventual winners Argentina at the 2022 World Cup, is under contract with the country from the Middle-East till 2027.

Saudi-Arabia were Renards first national teams job outside of Africa, where he managed Angola, Zambia (twice), Cote d’Ivoire and Morocco. In his second stint with Zambia he shocked African football by winning the AFCON in 2012. The Frenchman then went on to win the tournament with Cote d’Ivoire in 2015. Renard has had a number of spells with clubs in France, but has always had more success at international level.

With Renard out of the picture, a number of other names have been linked to the role. Thierry Henry and Andrea Pirlo are both believed to be in the running to replace Roberto Martinez.
