Two for Tolu helps Genk to crucial win over Antwerp

Nigerian striker Toluwalase Arokodare grabbed two second half goals soon after coming off the bench to give Genk a crucial win over Antwerp on Boxing Day. The 23-year-old came on after just under 70 minutes, but 10 minutes later he had a brace and gave Genk breathing space over the defending champions.

AFCON bound Aliue Fadera gave the home side the perfect start after 10 minutes. The Gambian international was assisted by another AFCON bound player in DR Congo’s Joris Kayembe to open the scoring. Antwerp, who have not won since beating Barcelona in the Champions League, will be frustrated as they lost points in the race to defend their crown.

For Genk, this result was the perfect way to put a controversial loss to Anderlecht behind them. The side are now up to fourth but are still 14 points off of the Pro League’s top side Union St Gilloise. Their first game back after the winter break is against a strong Cercle Brugge side at home.
