Tsuyoshi Watanabe and Feyenoord have reached a personal agreement, according to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri. KAA Gentโs Japanese defender is considered David Hanckoโs successor at De Kuip.
So far, thereโs been no agreement yet between Feyenoord and KAA Gent, the transfer journalist reports. However, โTheyโre in contact this week to conclude a full agreement.โ The Rotterdam club are still negotiating the details, Voetbal International reported. Watanabeโs transfer therefore, could be finalised this week.
This arrives as good news for Feyenoord, who are currently very short on central defenders. David Hancko is leaving for Saudi Arabia, while Gernot Trauner is struggling with physical problems, and Thomas Beelen broke his leg last weekend. Rav van den Berg is also expected to come to De Kuip. According to media reports in England, Feyenoord have already approached Middlesbrough with an opening bid.
Watanabe has been under contract at Gent since the summer of 2023, having signed from KV Kortrijk for approximately โฌ3.5 million. Watanabe previously played in Japan for FC Tokyo. The 28-year-old also has three caps for the Japan national team.
